It is well known that basketball was invented in 1891 by Dr.
James Nesmith, but what is not so well known is the history of
women's basketball. The inaugural women's college basketball
session was actually part of a physical education class at Smith
College for girls in Conneticut.
The very first women's college basketball game took place at
Smith College for girls in 1893 where the freshman played
against the sophomores. Unlike women's college basketball games
today, the game actually took ...

The "fantasy" in fantasy baseball stands for what a team would
be like with a collection of stars gathered together, not for an
alternate universe where value has no relation to reality.
Fantasy baseball is all about capturing players' performance on
the field and translating it into a competition. To capture the
offensive and defensive sides of play, both hitters' and
pitchers' statistics are monitored. Runs, RBIs, battting
average, home runs and stolen bases comprise the typical ...

As an athlete (or at least having been an athlete in the past)
and a sports fan, one of the difficult things about finding
myself on an extended stay in Shanghai, China (setting up

near isolation from most American sports. Although basketball,
over the past ten or so years, has become popular among the
Chinese people, baseball has yet to find its way into the sports

What stands out most in the minds of basketball fans around the
world is the flashy T-Mac drive, spin and dunk or the fierce
dunk over three defenders by Shaq, but it has been said that
defense wins games. The Detroit Pistons of recent times were a
prime example of that. Although they definitely could score, it
was their swarming defense that won them the NBA title.
Basketball Defense Tip #1 - Defense is a state of mind, an
attitude. Your desire, hustle and level of energy are as ...

The NBA -- some say appropriately -- chose Halloween as its 2006-2007 coming-out party.
A quartet of teams took the court for the first time in regular season play, though this momentous occasion was somewhat blurred in the holiday hullabaloo and ongoing NFL wars.
"People are still into football," said New Frontier bookmaking chief Tony Nevil.
"It'll be that way for three or four weeks more, at least until the end of the colleges.
"These are weeks that pretty much will define the NFL also. ...

Could the NBA regular season end a couple of weeks earlier?
Yes.
The season now ends on April 20 and the playoffs begin April 23.
If the regular season ended on April 6 it would fit nicely with
hoopla that surrounds the NCAA's men's Final Four plus the NBA's
playoffs could begin April 9.
This maneuver would reduce the regular season from the current

Would this provide for more meaningful late season games, and
more inspired play?
Absolutely.

I've seen a few pundits weigh in on the Patriots, saying they'll

After enduring that disgusting final weekend of the NFL season,
I have come to the conclusion that a new tie-breaker is needed.
How a team performs during the final weekend should be the first
tie-breaker, with all the current tie-breakers falling in line
after that. A team that won its final game would hold the first
tie-breaker advantage against a team they're tied with that lost
its final game. If they both lost, both won, or both tied their
